RICE’s video of Vietnamese young people conquering Mount Everest has been named the best online advertising of 2016
- It was based on a true story about the youngest Vietnamese to conquer Mount Everest. On May 22, 2008, Phan Thanh Nhien, then 23, together with two other Vietnamese became the first Vietnamese people to arrive at the world’s rooftop. Nhien also played one of the two main characters in the video.
On their way to the top, Nhien gave one of his oxygen tanks to his teammate. When they were heading back, he had problems with his last oxygen tank, but fortunately was rescued by another team happening to pass by. Had that team not arrived in the nick of time, he could have died, Nhien said.
- The whole project was conducted at a breakneck pace. It was finished in 8 weeks, from concept to post-production, while a project with similar scale could have taken 4-5 months.
- Post-production took half of the time, as the video heavily relied on VFX and CG. In fact, the VFX team from Digipost was involved in the project from the beginning to test the dynamics for the snow and the blizzard scene.
- Due to time and budget limits, the filming totally took place in a studio with more than 50 shots finished in one day. Such task may sound impossible, but the crew managed to finish it three hours ahead of schedule.Check it out at
